The cuckoo is a special being in Japanese mythology. Harbinger of Death and messenger of the fates, it exists on two planes : real and surreal.

The excerpts on this site are from the original, unrevised manuscripts of the Tales of the Kabukicuckoo.
Molded in the oldest of patterns - the journey of discovery, the initiation - these tales were originally
bedtime stories told to my two sons. Much time has passed between the telling, the writing, and the
appearance of these fragments on this site. Obviously, though I made some attempt to retain the spoken
qualities of the original stories, the plots have altered somewhat in the writing...

The Tales owe their existence to the characters with whom I spent the two years of my abandoned
masteral studies: sharing household, lives and fortunes.
You know who you are, all of you: wherever, whatever you may be.
To all of you: THANK YOU for the good times.
